The team for new ventures is headed by Jean-Louis Schiltz. He is also a Guest Professor at the University of Luxembourg where he teaches internet- and telecommunications law. Depending on the nature of the work, the M&A and corporate teams as well as the labour law team also stand ready to provide advice in their respective area of competence.

TMT – internet – e-commerce

The team has a strong TMT (technology, media and telecommunications) and internet law practice. It advises in particular on the setup of new businesses with an international focus in Luxembourg, covering both large international groups and start-ups.

While having a well-established banking practice, the firm is today recognized as the leading FinTech law firm in Luxembourg. Jean-Louis Schiltz has been recognized as one of Luxembourg’s most influential business leaders in Luxembourg in particular for his work on FinTech which he and his team are carrying out under the heading “innovation through law”. The team advises both traditional actors on digital challenges as well as rising FinTech stars which it guides for example through the regulatory challenges they are facing. Examples of the business areas in which the firm is active include digital payments, virtual currencies, blockchain, digital identity, new compliance models, digitalization of wealth management and many more.

Data protection

Schiltz & Schiltz advises local and international companies on all aspects of data protection and privacy law. The team offers the firm’s clients, which include amongst others financial institutions, insurance companies as well as start-ups, expert knowledge on all aspects of the European data protection regulations as well as their Luxembourg applications and their international implications. Two members of the team have in former capacities been heavily involved in the crafting of the relevant pieces of legislation, which puts Schiltz & Schiltz in a position to offer a rather unique perspective to its clients here.

Space law

Space law is for the firm the natural continuation of telecommunications law. Jean-Louis Schiltz has been asked to advise the Luxembourg government on the elaboration of Luxembourg’s new draft law on the exploration and use of space resources.
